April Message from ER Vernon Betkey

Dear Members,

As we welcome the vibrant spirit of April, I extend heartfelt wishes for a joyful Easter and a meaningful Passover to all members, families, and friends of the Ocean City MD Elks Lodge. May these holidays bring you peace, hope, and togetherness.

This month, we proudly recognize and celebrate the dedicated volunteers whose selfless service continues to uplift our Lodge and strengthen our community. Their unwavering commitment, generosity, and spirit of giving embody the very heart of our mission.

As Sherry Anderson so beautifully expressed, “Volunteers don’t get paid, not because they’re worthless, but because they’re priceless.” This sentiment perfectly reflects the immeasurable value our volunteers bring each and every day. Through their time, energy, and compassion, our volunteers make a lasting impact—supporting our efforts, enriching the lives of others, and helping our Lodge thrive. We extend our deepest gratitude for all that they do. Their contributions do not go unnoticed, and their kindness truly makes a difference.

To our officers, who served the Lodge during the 20252026 Elk Year, I extend my personal gratitude and deep appreciation for the effort you expended to make this amazing Lodge prosper. Your dedication ensures our traditions endure, our mission thrives, and our members and guests enjoy their Lodge experience.

I am deeply grateful and humbled by your trust in my reelection as Exalted Ruler. It is my privilege to continue serving alongside you. Our new officers were installed on March 29, 2026 in a ceremony at the Lodge that we shared with the new Auxiliary officers. Our sincere congratulations go to the Auxiliary officers on their recent accomplishments, and we thank you for your unwavering support and the positive energy you bring to every Lodge endeavor.  Please join me in welcoming our newly installed officers and wishing them much success in the coming year. Their commitment and enthusiasm promise a bright future for our Lodge, and we look forward to their leadership.

Congratulations to all recipients of this year’s Lodge Awards! Your exceptional contributions reflect the very best of Elkdom, and we are honored to celebrate your achievements and the lasting impact you’ve made on our organization. We offer special recognition to Officer of the Year, Cindy A. D’Alfonso, and GER Outstanding Service Commendation recipient, Vivian Merritt, for their outstanding dedication and service.

I am pleased to report that our Lodge was well represented at the MD DE DC Elks Association Spring Conference in Severna Park. The event provided valuable opportunities for learning, collaboration, and sharing ideas with fellow Elks from across the region. The Lodge was recognized for its charitable donations to Veterans, for being the top Association contributor to ENF, and selected to host the 2027 MD DE DC Elks Association Spring Conference, which will feature a weekend visit from the Grand Exalted Ruler.

Thank you all for your continued support, service, and fellowship. Together, we make our Lodge and community stronger every day, and you continue to Be the Difference.

- Fraternally yours,

Vernon F. Betkey, Jr.
Exalted Ruler
